Paul Wanklyn, President & Chief Executive Officer, Director
Mr. Wanklyn is the President, Chief Executive Officer, and a Director of Pipestone Energy. Mr. Wanklyn started his career at Canadian Hunter Exploration Ltd. in 1982 as an exploration geologist, and ultimately was the company’s Exploration Manager.
Mr. Wanklyn was co-founder and CEO of Tidal Resources Inc. in 1993 ,which was then sold to Chauvco/Pioneer Canada in 1997 for approximately 2 times original value after having developed approximately 4,000 boepd of production. Mr. Wanklyn then co-founded and was CEO of privately funded Temple Exploration Inc. in 2001, which grew to 4,500 boepd prior to a sale to Husky Energy in 2004 at 6.5 times original investment. His team immediately started Temple Energy in 2004 which merged with Cequence Energy in 2010 where Mr. Wanklyn remained as President and CEO. Cequence grew to over 12,000 boepd and 126 mmboe of reserves, largely in the Simonette Montney. Mr. Wanklyn was previously Chief Executive Officer of Pipestone Oil Corp.
Mr. Wanklyn sits on the Advisory Board of the University of Calgary, Hotchkiss Brain Institute. He is a Director of private Connaught Energy, operating in the onshore United Kingdom, and was a past-Director of the Exploration and Producers Association of Canada. Mr. Wanklyn received an MSc. in Geology from the University of Colorado in 1985 and a B.Comm from the University of Alberta in 1981.
Bob Rosine, Senior Vice President & Chief Operating Officer
Bob Rosine is the Chief Operating Officer of Pipestone Energy. Bob Rosine is a professional engineer with over 30 years of diverse technical and executive experience. He has an outstanding track record of oil and gas leadership, resource identification, operations, drilling and completions, capital & operating budgeting/forecasting, exploitation & reservoir engineering, deal execution, commodity hedging and finance.
Previously, Mr. Rosine was the the Chief Operating Officer of Pipestone Oil Corp. Mr. Rosine also served as President & CEO of OMERS Energy Inc., and has previously held executive positions at a number of oil & gas companies, including Pengrowth Energy Corporation, Highpine Oil & Gas Ltd., and other public E&P companies. Mr. Rosine received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary in 1981 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Alberta in 1977. Bob is a member of APEGA and SPE.
Craig Nieboer, Chief Financial Officer
Craig Nieboer is Chief Financial Officer at Pipestone Energy. Mr. Nieboer is an experienced finance executive with deep energy industry knowledge and relationships. He has extensive domestic and international experience in capital markets, and brings an entrepreneurial mindset to Pipestone.
Mr. Nieboer recently retired from CES Energy Solutions, where he served as CFO from November 2008 through September 2018. Over Craig’s tenor, CES grew from a Canadian drilling fluids business to a vertically integrated, North American wide, provider of oilfield chemistries. Craig led and built out the Finance, Tax, IT, IR, Legal and HR functions at CES. Craig also led the M&A initiatives that powered CES’ growth (16 acquisitions) and Capital Markets financings to fund acquisitions.
Previously, Mr. Nieboer Chief Financial Officer & Head-Investor Relations for Canadian Energy Services LP (a subsidiary of CES Energy Solutions Corp.) and Chief Financial Officer of Canacol Energy Ltd. and Chief Financial Officer for Brazalta Resources Corp. (a subsidiary of Canacol Energy Ltd.). From 1993 to 2002, Craig held several senior finance roles with both E&P operators and oilfield service companies operating in Russia and Azerbaijan, including Amerada Hess and Ivanhoe Energy.
He is also on the board of Quorum Information Technologies, Inc., Six Safety Systems, Inc. and AQTWM, Inc. and Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta.
Craig received his BComm. from the University of Calgary (1988) and his Chartered Accountant designation in Alberta (1991).
Dave Allen, Vice President, Geosciences
Mr. Allen is the Vice President, Geosciences for Pipestone Energy. and is responsible for the execution of Pipestone’s geophysical and geological activities.
Mr. Allen has extensive knowledge and expertise in play mapping & undeveloped upside assessments, exploration & development portfolio stewardship, and strategic planning & positioning.
Mr. Allen was previously the Vice President, Geosciences for Pipestone Oil Corp. He was also previously Vice President, Exploration at Pengrowth Energy Corporation and held senior positions at a number of other intermediate and junior E&P companies. Mr. Allen began his career as a Senior Geologist at Esso Resources Canada Ltd. He has over 30 years of experience in oil & gas exploration, development, and acquisitions.
Mr. Allen holds a Master of Science in Geological Studies from the University of British Columbia and is also a member of APEGA, CSPG, AAPG, SPE.
Darcy Erickson, Vice President, Operations & Production
Darcy Erickson is a Professional Engineer that brings over 33 years of operational oil and gas experience focused on drilling, completions, production operations, gas marketing, reserves, business development and property evaluations.
Mr. Erickson was previously the Vice President, Operations at Pipestone Oil Corporation, and has extensive knowledge of unconventional resource plays having been directly involved in the planning, drilling, and completion operations of over 200 wells over the last five years. Specific long term logistical and strategic planning coupled with project execution efficiency in the Pipestone AB and Bernadet NEBC Montney play as well as in the Thermal SAGD Lloydminster horizons of NE Alberta.
Mr. Erickson directly supervised the drilling and completion operations of Montney wells up to approximately 5,500 meters in length within the Groundbirch region in NEBC.
Prior to joining Pipestone, Darcy served as Director Joint Ventures, Drilling & Completions at Pengrowth Energy Corporation. Over his career, Darcy has held senior positions at several intermediate and junior E&P companies which include NAL, Harvest Operations Corp., Murphy Oil Company and Beau Canada Exploration.
Mr. Erickson holds a Diploma in Petroleum Technology from SAIT and a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1984 and is also a member of SPE and APEGA.
Dan van Kessel, Vice President, Corporate Development
Dan van Kessel is Vice President, Corporate Development at Pipestone Energy. Mr. van Kessel leads all the business development, transaction structuring, investment evaluation, and financing activities for Pipestone Energy.
Prior to joining Pipestone, Mr. van Kessel was Vice President, Corporate Development at Pipestone Oil Corp. Mr. van Kessel has also previously worked as an investment banking associate for Barclays in the Global Natural Resources group where he focused on the origination, structuring and execution of mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, public and private financings for a large suite of domestic and international energy focused entities.
Mr. van Kessel graduated from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western with an Honours Bachelor of Administration with a concentration in Finance
Neal Ross, Corporate Secretary
Neal Ross is the Corporate Secretary at Pipestone Energy and a Partner at Osler. Mr. Ross practises corporate and securities law, with an emphasis on mergers & acquisitions, private equity, corporate finance and company governance matters. He has extensive experience dealing with cross-border issues on numerous transactions, acting for foreign-based clients acquiring or investing in Canadian companies, Canadian companies acquiring foreign operations, and advising Canadian companies with significant foreign assets.
A significant portion of Mr. Ross’ practice involves corporate finance work, including private equity financings, as well as advising both issuers and underwriters on private and public offerings of debt and equity securities in Canada, the US and internationally.
