Senior Reservoir Engineer – Full Time Employee Position

Position Summary:

Based in the Calgary office and reporting to the Senior VP and COO, the Senior Reservoir Engineer will provide enhanced reservoir characterization and optimize the development of Pipestone’s Montney assets in the greater Grande Prairie / Wembley area. Working closely with other engineers the role will be to co – manage the assets and identify opportunities to improve performance and profitability. The successful candidate will be required to generate detailed evaluations of reservoir performance and present development recommendations and exploitation opportunities, supported by strong technical rationale and alignment with the corporate budget and priorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Integrated reservoir characterization and modelling/simulation – work with peers in Geoscience, Land, Drilling & Completions to enhance understanding of company assets and optimize development plans through the integration of all available data;

  • Act as a focal point to ensure alignment between development, drilling, completions, G&G, geomechanics, and reservoir inputs/assumptions;

  • Integrate subsurface analysis into full field development planning - collaborate with the development engineer and geoscience team to build a portfolio of future wells and create alternative development plans with different risk, production, and capital profiles;

  • Identify and implement reservoir surveillance plans to de-risk drilling locations or assess reservoir performance;

  • Integrate geological, geophysical and engineering data to generate expected well forecasts using reservoir simulation, subsurface analytical modelling, PTA and RTA;

  • Incorporate uncertainties and statistical analysis into forecasts;

  • Decline analysis, volumetric analysis and type well generation;

  • Ensure asset reserve and resource evaluations are current and technically well understood;

  • Integrate well test, production, and other geological/reservoir data to enhance characterization of reservoir dynamics with the goal of maximizing cost-efficient recovery of gas and liquids;

  • Identify and present production optimization opportunities that improve efficiencies and have demonstrable impacts on well performance and declines;

  • Perform internal reserves analysis, coordinate with technical team to maximize reserves value, and liaise with third party reserves evaluators;

  • Develop and present technical summaries detailing asset performance on both a production and cost basis along with recommendations for improvement.

  • And other assigned duties.

  • APEGA registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with 10+ years industry experience in reservoir, production operations and/or development engineering;

  • An engineering degree from an accredited institution;

  • Minimum of 5 years of Montney / Duvernay or other unconventional reservoir engineering workflow experience;

  • Some exposure to artificial lift, including gas lift operations and optimization would be beneficial;

  • Business development/exploitation evaluation experience with Montney exposure;

  • Regulatory experience working with a provincial regulator in Alberta and BC;

  • Solid foundation in budgeting, cash flow analysis and economic metrics (i.e. NPV, ROR, Netbacks etc.)

  • Familiar with detailed reservoir engineering including well test analysis (RTA and PTA), PVT, DFITs, reservoir simulation (parametric model & full field simulation), geomechanics;

  • EOR (i.e. Huff-n-Puff Gas Cycling, Gas injection, waterflood/pressure maintenance);

  • Experience with statistical analysis/Monte-Carlo simulation;

  • Experienced with relevant software packages (GeoScout, ValNav, IHS Harmony/RTA, CMG/Eclipse reservoir simulation).

Candidate Attributes:

  • Positive, self-motivated and dependable with a willingness to contribute beyond direct job responsibilities and accommodate short timelines when necessary;

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with both technical and non-technical teams;
