Senior Completions Engineer – Full Time Employee Position

Position Summary:

Based in the Calgary office and reporting to the VP of Operations and Production, the Senior Completions Engineer will provide expertise and leadership in the development, design, and execution of well completions and well performance enhancements for Pipestone’s Montney assets. Candidates require a strong technical background and a proven track record in designing and executing horizontal multi-well, multi-frac completions for unconventional reservoirs, with preference for those with exposure to Montney development.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate alternate fracture stimulation applications for use in the Montney and make recommendations for implementing new techniques;

  • Work with Reservoir, Geology and Production to identify key components for improving stimulation treatments to achieve the right balance of cost and performance;

  • Interact with government regulatory officials to ensure proper approvals and permits are in place;

  • Evaluate stimulation and key service companies and work to develop best in class vendor selection for completion operations;

  • Evaluate and optimize completions execution, analyze key parameters that drive pad cycle time, make recommendations on program changes, communicate to leadership and field staff;

  • Design detailed well completion & workover procedures for multi-stage horizontal wells including cased-hole logging, frac treatment, liner installation, tubing and downhole or surface pump assemblies;

  • Evaluate multi well communication using DFIT, microseismic, chemical tracers, DH pressure/surface gauges and other technologies;

  • Generate completion AFEs, tracking costs, write/review completion programs, contribute to weekly operational meetings;

  • Modeling completion performance;

  • Optimizing completion designs and operations;

  • Working with drilling and production to design effective horizontal and multilateral wells;

  • Evaluating and selecting appropriate equipment to achieve completion objectives;

  • Preparing cost estimates and assessing risk in terms of probability and potential remedies as related to completions;

  • Supervising completion and workover operations.

  • And other duties.

Candidate Requirements:

  • APEGA registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with 10+ years of petroleum/completions engineering experience including multiple years supporting unconventional assets;

  • An engineering degree from an accredited institution;

  • Extensive experience in completions design and supervision of stimulations for unconventional reservoirs;

  • At least 5 years of Montney and/or Duvernay completions experience;

  • Minimum of 5 years horizontal multi-well & multi-stage hydraulic fracturing experience, including but not limited to, open hole ball drop systems, cased hole sleeve systems (i.e. NCS, Stage), Plug-n-Perf (PNP) operations preferred;

  • Multi-well pad completions with multiple frac crews operating from the same pad;

  • Experience evaluating and selecting appropriate equipment to achieve completion objectives and optimizing completion/workover designs and operations required;

  • Expertise in frac modeling with both 3D planar models as well as advanced coupled geomechanical frac models;

  • Experience with artificial lift, including gas lift operations would be considered an asset;

  • Regulatory experience working with a provincial regulator in Alberta and BC;

  • Experience evaluating and selecting appropriate equipment to achieve completion objectives and optimizing completion/workover designs and operations required;

  • Experienced with relevant software packages (GeoScout, Petrosight/Wellview, GOHFER, FracMan, StimPlan, FrackOptima);

  • Sour operations, H2S Alive certification.
