Senior Production Engineer

Pipestone Energy Corp. (“PIPE” a public TSXV traded company) is a newly created oil and gas company formed from the recently announced merger of Pipestone Oil Corp. and Blackbird Energy Inc.

 What is the position?

Pipestone Energy Corp. is seeking a Senior Production Engineer to provide expertise and leadership in the design, implementation, and operation of wells, gathering systems and production facilities.

Our new team member will be based primarily in the corporate office in Calgary, with the requirement for some travel to our field operations in the Grande Prairie area.

This position will report to the VP of Production and Operations.

What will you do?

Candidates require a strong technical background and a proven track record managing liquid rich wells and monitoring performance to ensure cash flow and operating net back targets are achieved.

  • Positive, self-motivated and dependable with a willingness to contribute beyond direct job responsibilities and accommodate short timelines when necessary;

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with both technical and non-technical teams;

  • Strong communication and presentation skills;

  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with a track record of successfully managing and executing multiple assignments with minimal supervision.


  • Work with Production Accountants to ensure proper production measurement and allocation

  • Monitor well performance with the Field Operations and technical staff to proactively optimize wells, gathering systems and facilities

  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with field staff; visits the field regularly

  • Initiate activities to reduce operating costs and improve efficiencies

  • Program and track results of workovers and well optimization projects including dollars spent and production impact

  • Conceive, implement and actively manage production management processes which add value to the property

  • Ensure projects are safely completed on time and within budget

  • Develop production forecast and operating budgets for the property consistent with the reservoir depletion plans and the capital budget

  • Conduct competitor intelligence reviews to evolve understanding of artificial lift technologies

  • Support board meeting preparation

Requirements and Experience

  • APEGA registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with 10+ years of production engineering experience including multiple years supporting unconventional assets

  • Experience with artificial lift, including gas lift operations

  • Strong working knowledge of gathering systems and gas compression facilities

  • Regulatory experience working with a provincial regulator in Alberta and BC

  • Sour operations, H2S Alive certification
